What percent of humidity is good for straightening hair?
Q. I straighten my hair often but living in Texas it often becomes problematic! What percent of humidity should I look for in the forecast before deciding to straighten?

A. I also live in Texas and have very thick curly hair. The humidity in Texas will never go down (unless you live in maybe the panhandle). Do you use anything when you straighten it? Assuming you split your hair into sections to straighten it in small amounts, try spraying hair spray in each little section right before you iron it. I find this helps seal it a little with the humidity, but it isn't all stiff because you are ironing it after using hairspray and brushing through it. I also spray a light flexible hairspray all over my hair after straightening to help hold the straightness. Hope this helps!

How to get the humidity and musty smell out of the basement?
Q. Lately the weather has been hot and humid and the basement of my house started to smell damp and musty.It is a finished basement with a sealed brick floor and there is no air conditioning down there either. I have a dehumidifier going but the smell is still there. Is there another way or something additional that I can do to get rid of the smell and the humidity?

A. Is the dehumidifier working? You can try using fans to move,dry the air. As for the smell, if there is no mold or mildew visible saucers of pure vinegar will help with the smell, if there is mold ,use the bleach to kill it, then the vinegar to clear the smell. Also any fabric,carpet,curtains etc. can be sprayed with diluted vinegar water. PS, The vinegar smell dissipates as it dries! I use this all the time.

What is the lowest percentage humidity required for it to rain?
Q. Like is there like a "magic number" that the humidity has to be at least for it to be enough to cause rain? So how come sometimes it's like 90% and it rains?!

A. It has been found out that condensation can take place in the atmosphere even when the relative humidity is around 70 percent provided abundant hygroscopic nuclei are available. We know that condensation nuclei are required for the formation of cloud.Hygroscopic nuclei is one type of condensation nuclei.Nuclei like salt or sulphuric acid have affinity for water.Hence, particles of salt and droplets of sulphuric acid which are usually availble in the atmosphere are called hygroscopic nuclei.If they are abundant at a particular time, saturation may occur at a less humidity value.
