As a broad example, an ATM is automated. It used to be that people HAD to go and see a teller whenever they wanted to deposit or withdraw money. Now, they can do it at an ATM (short for Automated Teller Machine). This creates efficiencies for the organization in that it saves on the labor it takes to keep up the customer service. However, it usually generates work on a different end. In this example, the organization now needs to hire someone to maintain the ATM, put money in it, take money out of it and balance it to make sure there is not missing or extra money.
