Q. I live in a narrow 4 level townhouse and even when my air conditioner is on, the 4th level is still pretty warm. Any ideas of getting colder air more evenly distributed throughout the house? We already have fans on the 4th level. We are considering buying a bigger fan for the heating/cooling unit. In such a case should I have the furnace fan on all the time as opposed to on the automatic mode. I'm also considering having someone come in an inspect my air conditioner for a tune-up. Any suggestions would be helpful.

A. The room farther from the unit is always a few degrees warmer. I had the same problem so I added attic exhaust fans to help this situation out. I installed the exhaust fans with thermostat control. The average attic heat reaches 120 degrees and higher. I set the thermostats at 90 degrees and that helped me out by about ten degrees in the farther room. You want to install the fans so you have good exhaust from the whole attic. when you purchase the fans they will come with the instructions as for the best lay out. These fans are very inexpensive,I paid about $45.00 apiece for them. it was money well spent.
