A. In general the temperature of the air parcel falls as it rises into the atmosphere and rises as it falls in the atmosphere. However, inversions are stable areas in the atmosphere where the temperature is often greater than the layer below it. The tropopause is an excellent example of this. In inversions, the parcel of air can mix with this air mass to give variations in the statement above.
