Which HVAC system is most economical solution for the long run?
Q. I need your advice and here is a description of my house, located in the southeast North West: 1) I have a basement about 800SF that is not accessible from the main floor but only from the back yard. Basement has double door and exterior windows with daylight south and west side. It is generally cool and humid especiallyin the summer because I dug 3 feet below grade transforming it to a basement from a crawl space. That's one area. 2) Main floor is about 1200SF and possibly I will add another 220SF room in the near future (pending), so total 1420SF 3) Attic space is about 400SF, to be made into a game room. Ceiling height in basement is 9 Ceiling height in main is 8.3 Ceiling height in Attic, basically roof sloped, I d say… [cont.]

A. A heat pump is essentially an air conditioner that has valves to reverse the flow of the refrigerant so it becomes a heat source. It is probably the most efficient heat source as long as the outside temperature is above 10 degrees F. Colder than that would require a back up source of fuel, i.e. gas. It will probably require updating your electrical. You could get a quote from a HVAC Supplier to get an idea what they would recommend for size etc. God Bless
